On June 30, 2016 – BETA Inc. merged into UCP of Central Florida. UCP continues to offers many of the same programs to support teen moms and their babies at the same location now called the UCP Downtown/BETA Campus (4680 Lake Underhill Road, Orlando).
The BETA Alternative School program is the educational component of the partnership between UCP of Central Florida, Inc. and Orange County Public Schools (OCPS). The BETA school program is open to pregnant teens and young mothers and serving up to 100 students, ages twelve to nineteen. OCPS provides a full academic curriculum while UCP of Central Florida, Inc., provides parenting support and counseling to students enrolled in the program. The BETA School offers the traditional school curriculum with specific electives such to address Child Development, Parenting, Nutrition, and Family Living.
UCP offers a full day childcare service for the teen mom’s attending the BETA Middle/High School at part of our overall education program. This is free service for the mom’s (paid for by OCPS). Each class has between 8-16 children (depending on the age/size of the room) with a 1:4 to 1:5 ratio. The infant/toddler teachers are staffed with a teacher with a CDA (Child Development Associate) or Associate Degree. Some of the toddler teachers (and all the PreK teachers) have a bachelor degree and a certified teachers.
UCP offers parenting support including parent training, pre-natal nursing support, and life skills training. Additionally, we provide individual and group counseling programs. Through community donations, UCP also assists with needs for the babies/moms (i.e. diapers, formula, baby clothes, etc.)
We’re currently seeking donations of baby items (diapers, formula, baby clothes, diaper wipes) as well as volunteers to help as “baby huggers” and organize donations. We also need mentors to help run parent training labs and work individually with the teens.
